Cellulite is mostly genetic, but these are some tips to keep it at bay and minimize its appearance
Summer is just around the corner and many of us are working hard to get in shape in order to feel confident walking around in our ‘short shorts’ and bathing suits… Unfortunately many hold back showing off their beautiful bodies because they are self conscious about their stubborn cellulite – even after working hard to lose weight. I have a little cellulite stored on my upper thigh and it drove me crazy for a couple years… That was until I found a good routine to minimize the appearance of those little fat packages stored in the skin. Follow this guide to look great, but more importantly, feel confident!
1. Body Brush
Why have I not been dry body brushing my whole life? It’s amazing! Dry body brushing will not only make your skin extremely smooth, but it will also help drain excess water and toxins in your lymphatic system… This will inevitably reduce the look of cellulite. I recommend body brushing at least two-three times a week. For best results, body brush everyday before you shower/sauna or just before bed. Start brushing from your feet and work all the way up to your collar bone. Always brush in the direction to your heart… For example, when brushing your legs, brush upwards. Yes, your skin may be a little pink after but that is okay. Also note: make sure you use a non-synthetic and natural brush. You can buy a brush at most high end grocery stores such as Whole Foods for $8-10.
I find sweating out those toxins and excess water will vastly decreases the appearance of cellulite. I try to sauna once or twice a week. Make sure you drink plenty of water after you get out.
Exfoliating on the regular will help remove the toxins and excess water in your skin. It will also make your skin incredible soft. After doing lots of research, I have concluded that exfoliating with a combination of: used coffee grinds, unused freshly ground coffee, coconut oil and a couple drops of real peppermint extract, will seriously reduce the look of cellulite! Throw those things into a bowl and mix really well. Then in the shower, give yourself a nice exfoliating session. Wait a few minutes before you wash the mixture off to fully allow the skin to absorb the nutrients. Doing this once a week will really make a difference.
4. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil can seriously do anything… I swear massaging coconut oil into my skin after I shower reduces the look of cellulite. I like to keep a small jar of organic coconut oil in my bathroom at all times. I usually lightly pat myself down with a towel after I get out of the bath or shower, then proceed to somewhat deeply massage the coconut oil in my ‘problem’ areas. If you do this religiously, it will work!
5. Natural Tanning Lotion
Having a little bronzed glow will help mask the look of cellulite. I do not approve of any chemical-loaded fake tanning products… That being said, I really enjoy using a 100% natural tanning lotion. You can check out my post on how to get a natural sunless beach glow to see this routine and the products I use.
And of course, on top of all these things, toning your problem areas, eating well, getting your cardio on, and drinking lots of water will slowly help to improve your cellulite problem! Never discredit these factors. I hope this mini guide helps you feel more confident. I can honestly say I swear by doing this routine. Yes, it may be a lot of work at times, but it really increases my confidence in the summer season. I should also note that I only really do this routine religiously in the Spring and Summer. I can’t imagine how amazing my skin would be if I stuck to it all year round. Give these methods a try and let me know how it goes!
