Let’s talk about one of my favourite items to make in the kitchen: smoothies! Smoothie, shakes… all kind of the same. But here is my insider secret… You wanna hear it?
There are four parts to a smoothie that will 100% help curb those not so healthy cravings – and keep you full for up to 4-6 hours. Here are the four important parts to a smoothie:
Protein stabilizes blood sugars and keeps you full for hours. Find a protein powder that you love. I personally like to steer clear of any artificial sugars in my protein powders! I also tend to avoid whey protein and look for sprouted grain protein powders. My personal favourites are these protein powders:
Note: Try a grass-fed or marine collagen. They dissolve easily into your smoothie and leave next to no taste.
- Healthy Fat
I am all about those healthy fats! They keep you feeling full for hours and give you a dewy glow. I recommend avocado, MCT oil, coconut meat or a creamy nut/seed butter. You only need about a tablespoon of healthy fat.
Fiber!! My best-friend. Fiber keeps you feeling full for hours! It also helps keep you regular and your heart nice and healthy! If you do not have any fiber powder, you can always sub for some flax or chia seeds. Here are my favourite fiber powders:
- Dark Leafy Greens
It is recommended that you get one-two servings of dark leafy greens a day. By adding them to your smoothie, you are that much ahead of the game. You can’t even taste them in your smoothie, so why wouldn’t you add some spinach or kale?
And as a bonus: Antioxidants
Adding a punch of antioxidants are always recommend. You can add a small handful of berries, matcha or cacoa nibs
