I am not gonna to lie, I think I ate these oats daily for breakfast eight months in a row (my boyfriend is a witness). They are just so dang creamy and delicious! If anyone ever asks me for a delicious oatmeal recipe to help pursue their weight-loss goals, I always suggest this one first! This bowl is high in protein and extremely high in fiber which means you will feel full for a long time. Oats, flax and chia seeds are wonderful for stabilizing blood sugars early in the morning which helps prevent unhealthy binges later on in the day. This bowl is also loaded with omega-3 fatty acids which are really good for your heart and brain function.
I should also note, this almond butter is my favourite almond butter of all time. You can purchase it for $8 at Trader Joe’s. It has a tiny bit of cashew butter in it and the amount of saltiness is to die for.
In the recipe below, I only write how to make the most basic form of this porridge. In my photos, I have topped the bowl with cacao nibs for natural occurring energy and some salted almond butter for more creaminess. Any additives obviously increase your calories. I suggest if you are trying to slim down, make this bowl as is and go from there. It will certainly fill you up all morning long.
For sweeteners, you can use a package of stevia for a no calorie – no sugar method. I personally love some good old fashion warm maple syrup drizzle (natural of course, please never use Aunt Jemima). Another delicious way to sweeten this bowl up is to mash a ripe banana into it! Now if you are really looking to spike your protein for the day, you can also add a scoop of vanilla or chocolate protein powder to act as your sweetener. A scoop of protein might make you feel so full -you might want to explode lol. I recommend you experiment with this porridge and see what you enjoy the most! All my love, xo.
