– How to Really Achieve the Body You Want –
This is going to sound very contradictory, but the best way to achieve your ideal body image IS TO STOP THINKING ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT!!!!!!! We are so fixated and obsessed with “weight” in today’s society that we end up make unhealthy choices for our body that result in poor weight management.
I almost did not post this writing piece because I am all about acceptance and loving your body in the now – but if I am being realistic, there are probably millions of people in this world who really want to make small changes to their body so they can feel more confident in their own skin or for health reasons. So I will write you my greatest advice.
At one point in my life, I struggled to maintain my weight (but really maintain a body image). It took me quite some time to figure out why… Then one day it hit me. I was so fixated on calories and weight alone, that I forgot to make healthy choices for my body. GASP!
We as a society need to start separating weight from health and body image.
When we form unhealthy relationships with food, we ourselves become unhealthy. Restrictive eating, binge eating, extreme calorie cutting, low-calorie labels, artificial sugars– all of that stuff for “weight loss” is pure CRAP!
If people would stop concentrating so intrinsically on numbers and start focusing more on:
- eating a well-balanced diet with REAL food
- working out more consistently
- and most importantly eating mindfully …
then we will start to see some serious results.
Reading a scale can really hold you back from that confident or healthy image you desire so deeply. Even if you gain some weight, it may be all muscle. Muscle is denser than fat; therefore, a scale is a bad resource. I can testify. I am heavier now that I started lifting weights and doing HIIT workouts, but I look slimmer than ever (well minus the butt gains 😉 ). Does this weight gain scare me? NO! Because I have come to conclude that I am healthier, stronger, and more confident in my own skin.
Do not get me wrong, for some, weight loss is necessary for a longer healthier life. Being extremely over weight is not ideal… I wouldn’t disagree with that. All I am saying is for those of you who really want to make smaller changes, stop focusing so deeply on what number holds you down to this earth. How many times in your life have you been walking down a street and gone, “well that girl must be 148.75 pounds”? Yah, I don’t think so. We are more than numbers!
It is so crucial that you take a long hard look at yourself and ask, “Am I making the healthiest choices for my body?”. This should be your new way of looking at body image, weight and health. It was the moment I let go of numbers that changed my body and health for the better.
Side Note: It is important to identify your ideal body. In today’s society, media pressures men to be to be huge and jacked – while woman are suppose to be slim but toned. Do not fall for unattainable images. You have a unique and individual body. Do not use someone as your “inspiration” or “motivation”. You can only be your best self. Acceptance is key.
This article is written for those who are seeking “fat loss”. I recognize there are many people who seek “weight-gain”… In which case, I would suggest other ideas.
