The perfect outdoor date.
I have hiked The Chief four times – but this time was by far the best. Josh just wrapped up his hockey season so I thought I would take advantage of his short off-season and head up to Whistler for the night. The Chief Provincial Park is about an hour and a half away from our house (located just outside Vancouver, BC). I really recommend you hike The Chief if you have never before. It is only forty-five minutes south of Whistler. The view at the top is absolutely stunning. The water is crystal blue and the mountains are near perfection. It is shaded ninety-percent of the hike – which makes the heat bearable. It took us about forty-five minutes to get up the mountain and thirty minutes to get down. I wouldn’t say it was super difficult, but it’s certainly not a walk in the park either. The top of the second peak requires you to use chains and ladders. The men seem to love this part – the women not so much. The guy behind us kept saying, “this is so gnarly dude”.
I do recommend you have some experience in hiking before going. To be honest, I felt coming down was much tougher on the body than going up. The constant stopping and going can be hard on the knees.
Josh had never hiked The Chief before, so it was quite special. We definitely worked our little butts off. I am so thankful I had a huge breakfast before the hike/drive to keep me going. I had a large bowl of quinoa porridge with strawberries and a slice of my vegan banana bread.
All in all, it was such a great afternoon. We figured we burned a lot of calories so we indulged in some amazing BC Wines after. What’s life without a little fun? 😉 It twas’ a great mini getaway.
