Six gym bag essentials for the busy person.
When you’re a busy person, hitting the gym can be very last minute. Sometimes I like to workout first thing in the morning and then rush straight to work. On other days, I like to fit in a workout on my way home from the office – but before running my errands. Regardless of my hectic schedule, I never like to miss a workout. But because I never know when I might hit the gym, I like to keep my bag fully stocked for any situation. On top of a good pair of running shoes and the perfect outfit, here are a few other items I keep in my bag at all times:
1. Nuts & Fruit
I cannot workout if I’m even the slightest bit hungry. Instead of throwing an ’emergency’ protein bar into my bag, I like to throw in a small handful of nuts and a piece of fruit. Back in the day, my volleyball trainer always preached, “fats and carbohydrates before and during workouts, protein after”. I still stand by that. I like this combination because it’s light enough to avoid cramping in cardio, but filling enough to carry me through an entire workout.
2. Reusable Water Bottle
Hydration before, during and after a workout is vital. My boyfriend’s family gave me a Swell Water Bottle for Christmas and I am absolutely obsessed with it. I swear it keeps my water fresh and cold for hours; which is a big deal considering I am a water diva.
3. Natural Deodorant
Sometimes I get a little… well.. stinky… Who doesn’t?? I like to keep a 100% natural deodorant stick like Tom’s Long Lasting Deodorant in my gym bag at all times.
4. Cleansing Pads or Towelettes
I hate feeling oily, dirty, greasy, sweaty… I hate it all! I like to keep my Natural Trader Joe’s: Tea Tree Oil Wipes in my workout bag. Keeping these in my bag leaves me feeling fresh no matter where I head to next.
5. Jump Rope
I don’t know about your gym, but for some reason at my gym, the jump rope is always missing! There is some kind of jump rope thief! I love jumping rope as a warm up. You can burn up to 15 calories a minute and it makes your calves look super sexy 😉 I keep my own jump rope in my bag at all times.
6. Protein Powder (Preferably Plant Based)
Protein is great for repairing muscles after a hard workout! That being said, I don’t always have enough time to pack a protein filled post-work out meal when I am running out the door. By keeping a small sample package of protein powder/or a ziplock baggy of protein powder in my gym bag, I always give my body what it needs in any situation by simply shaking it with some water or a to-go carton of almond milk.
On top of those six items, I also like to throw these things into my bag as well:
- Vega Pre-Workout Energizing Powder – For a Kick of Energy
- Dry Shampoo or Baby Powder – For Greasy Hair
- Gloves for Lifting and Cycling – To Avoid Calluses and Improve Grip
- Small Towel – For Sweat
- Log Book – For Goals and Workout Records
- Extra Shirt – For the Extra Sweaty.
Just because you are busy, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice working out. Keep your gym bag stocked with your favourite items, and you’ll always find the time to get there.
Happy Exercising! 🙂
